Description

Scrapbook contains Rudyard Kipling’s early works in the Pioneer Mail. Compiled by Sir William Garth (1854-1923), a British lawyer and advocate serving in Kolkata, India from 1885-1913, then acquired by Kipling collector Ellis Ames Ballard (1861-1938).

Includes first printings of “Letters of Marque”, and writing from his travels to Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Japan, America, and Canada from March – September 1889, which were eventually collected into “From Sea to Sea and Other Sketches, Letters of Travel” in 1899.
